Syntigo connects UZ Leuven with partner hospitals via high-speed connections (30 June 2011)
Since the end of April 2011, Syntigo ensures extremely fast connections between various hospitals of nexuz health, a new medical partnership that UZ Leuven developed together with a number of other health care institutions.
Syntigo’s network infrastructure and services currently connect UZ Leuven with AZ Diest, OLV Hospital Aalst – Asse – Ninove and AZ Groeninge Kortrijk. For this, nexuz health uses broadband connections between 100 Mbps and 1 Gbps.
Electronic health record
Over the past few years, UZ Leuven has developed the so-called Clinical Work Station (KWS). With this computer system, the electronic health record becomes the cornerstone of structured, secure and qualitative patient care. The partnership nexuz health recently won the Agoria e-Health Award 2011.
As a platform, the KWS has since developed into an integrated workflow system that contains the medical data of patients and that follows their course of treatment step by step. Via nexuz health, together with the nexuz health partners, the UZ Leuven has extended the KWS to seven other institutions in order to achieve a uniform distribution of health care, with one shared health record per patient.
Via the Syntigo connections, there are now more hospitals working closely together with one health record. In practice this means that health care providers and doctors are able to consult the health record 24 hours a day, simultaneously, with a multidisciplinary and transmural approach. The advantages qua integrated file generation, access control, time saving, saving paper and so on are substantial. Furthermore, a strict access system ensures that only those who are involved in the treatment of a patient can open a health record.
Prospect for growth
In the near future, nexuz health will triple the current UZ Leuven volume. The 2,000 beds will soon become 6,000. Fortunately, the new computer rooms at UZ Leuven are prepared for this growth. And nexuz health can always count on Syntigo to expand the network with new, super-fast network connections.
